Blue is familiar territory in watchmaking. Steel Blue makes it feel a little more sophisticated.
The Von Doren Runde Steel Blue combines the clean proportions of the 39mm Runde with a beautifully restrained steel-blue sunburst dial.
The colour changes as light moves across the surface — sometimes cool and subdued, at other times brighter and more metallic — giving an otherwise simple watch considerably more depth.
At 39mm, the stainless-steel case remains compact and elegant. Inside is the dependable Swiss Ronda 1069 quartz movement, offering excellent accuracy, reliability and very little need for attention.
Turn the watch over and the caseback recalls the extraordinary story of the Runde Treasure, engraved in the style of a ducat from the cargo of the Akerendam, wrecked off Norway in 1725.
Why buy it?
Because Steel Blue is wonderfully easy to wear without becoming anonymous.
It has the versatility of a classic blue watch, but the sunburst finish and slightly cooler tone give it a character of its own.
