Vesuviate Arrives in the UK - Engineering Without Convention

There are watch brands that begin with a sketch. Others begin with a marketing idea.
Vesuviate began with an engineer. And perhaps that explains why, when you spend some time with these watches, so many of the decisions seem to have been made by asking “how can we make this better?” rather than “how can we make this look expensive?”
We are delighted to welcome Vesuviate Watches to Sincrono Luxury as an official authorised UK retailer, bringing this fascinating Singaporean independent watchmaker properly within reach of British collectors.
And this is a brand we have been looking forward to introducing.
From extreme engineering to watchmaking
Vesuviate was founded in Singapore by YK Wong, whose route into watchmaking was rather different from the usual story. Before creating watches, YK spent more than three decades working within the upstream oil and gas industry across Asia and the Middle East — a world where materials, pressure, temperature, tolerances and reliability are not abstract engineering concepts.
They matter. After returning to Singapore in 2019, he turned a lifelong enthusiasm for mechanical watches into something new: a watch company built around the same fascination with materials and engineering that had shaped his professional life. That background is important because it helps explain Vesuviate. These are not watches designed first and engineered afterwards.
The engineering is part of the design.
Hardness that goes beneath the surface
One of the clearest examples is Vesuviate's approach to stainless steel.
Many watches achieve a dark or hardened exterior through a coating applied onto the metal. Vesuviate takes a different route.
Its 316L stainless-steel cases and bracelets undergo a thermochemical surface-hardening treatment, allowing nitrogen to diffuse into the surface of the steel itself rather than simply placing another material on top of it.
The result is a surface hardness of approximately 1,100 HV.
It is an unusually serious specification, but what interests us is the thinking behind it.
A watch designed for everyday life will eventually meet desks, doors, bags, travel, work and everything else that happens between leaving the house and returning home.
Vesuviate's answer is not to tell you to be more careful with your watch.
It is to make the watch considerably harder to begin with.
That philosophy runs throughout the collection.
And then things become interesting...
Engineering alone is not enough for us at Sincrono. A watch can be technically excellent and still leave you completely cold. Vesuviate avoids that problem rather spectacularly.
The brand has developed a visual identity around strong colour, unconventional displays and designs that are immediately recognisable, particularly within the square Attivo family.
There is serious thinking underneath, but there is also a sense that somebody is enjoying themselves.
That combination matters.
Attivo — where the square became the starting point
The Attivo establishes the basic architecture beautifully.
A compact 39mm square case, sapphire front and back, hardened steel and a gilt Miyota 9015 automatic movement create an everyday mechanical watch with proportions that are unusual without becoming difficult to wear.
Then Vesuviate starts playing with the idea.
And this is where things become much more interesting.
Attivo-Duplex — why use one movement when you can use two?
The Attivo-Duplex may be the watch that best explains Vesuviate's personality.
The problem is simple: how do you display two different time zones?
The conventional answer is a GMT hand.
Vesuviate apparently looked at that solution and decided it wasn't nearly entertaining enough.
Instead, the Duplex places two completely independent automatic movements inside the same 39mm case, each powering its own dial. Home time on one side. Destination on the other. Turn the watch over and two separate sapphire windows reveal both movements operating independently. Is it the most conventional solution? Absolutely not.
That is precisely why we like it.
Independent watchmaking should occasionally make you wonder why somebody decided to do
something in a particular way — and then make you very glad that they did.
Attivo-Chrono — mechanical theatre
Then there is the Attivo-Chrono.
The same recognisable square architecture becomes home to a Sea-Gull ST-1940 automatic column-wheel chronograph, complete with a custom gilt rotor visible through the sapphire exhibition back.
This is one of those watches where interaction becomes part of ownership.
Press the pusher. Watch the chronograph begin. Stop it. Reset it. Turn the watch over and look at the mechanism responsible. There is something wonderfully analogue about the whole experience.
And once again Vesuviate refuses to hide all of this behind predictable colours. Pale Yellow, Salmon, Pastel Blue, Maroon Brown and even a Full-Lume interpretation give a serious mechanical chronograph a much less serious personality.
We approve.
Volare — made for movement
The Volare takes the same engineering philosophy into a more conventional round architecture, but adds genuine travel functionality.
Powered by the Seiko NH34A automatic GMT movement, the 41mm Volare offers a second time zone, sapphire bezel insert, sapphire crystal, hardened steel and 200 metres of water resistance.
And again, colour plays an important part.
Blue. Green. Purple. Red. Brown. White.
The newer Volare-Digi takes that willingness to experiment even further, introducing its distinctive digital-inspired dial treatment in Green and Grey.
Different collections, but the philosophy remains recognisably Vesuviate.

The name behind the fireball
Even the name has personality.
Vesuviate takes its inspiration from Mount Vesuvius, with the brand's fireball logo evolving from the imagery of a volcanic flame.
It is an appropriately energetic identity for watches that rarely seem interested in disappearing quietly into the background.
But beneath the colours and unusual designs, the brand remains remarkably consistent.
Strength.
Materials.
Practicality.
Mechanical interest.
And value created through engineering rather than prestige.
Why Vesuviate belongs at Sincrono
Those of you who have followed Sincrono for some time will know that we are not particularly interested in filling the Atelier simply for the sake of having more brands.
Every addition has to answer the same question:
Why should anyone care?
With Vesuviate, there are several answers.
I like the engineering mentality.
I like that YK's professional background genuinely influences how the watches are constructed.
I like the hardened steel and the emphasis on durability.
I like the fact that sapphire is used extensively rather than treated as an exotic luxury.
I like the mechanical choices.
But above all, I like the imagination.
Two automatic movements inside one watch because a conventional GMT simply wasn't interesting enough.
A column-wheel chronograph inside a colourful square case.
Serious materials combined with playful colours.
A 200-metre automatic GMT that doesn't feel the need to resemble every other GMT already on the market.
These are decisions made by an independent watchmaker with the freedom to follow an idea.
And that is exactly what Sincrono exists to support.
Vesuviate comes to the UK
British enthusiasts may already have encountered Vesuviate on the independent-watch circuit, but this marks an important next step. Sincrono Luxury is now an official authorised UK retailer for Vesuviate Watches. That means British customers can discover the collection through Sincrono with UK-based purchasing, support and after-sales assistance — without the complications that can sometimes accompany buying an independent watch directly from overseas.More importantly, it means we can introduce the watches properly. Not simply as photographs and specifications on a screen, but as part of a wider story about why independent watchmaking remains so interesting.
Vesuviate does not have a century of heritage. It does not need one.
It has something else:
an engineer's obsession with making things work, an independent designer's freedom to experiment, and the confidence to create watches with personalities unmistakably their own.
Welcome to the UK, Vesuviate.
We think you are going to enjoy it here.
