Introducing Vespucci Firenze — A New Watchmaking Story from Florence

What does a new watch brand do when it doesn't have a hundred years of history to talk about?

It can invent some. Or it can do something considerably more interesting: start creating its own.

That, for me, is one of the attractions of Vespucci Firenze, the latest independent watchmaker to join Sincrono Luxury as an Official UK Retailer.

Vespucci Orologi Firenze is genuinely young. Established in Florence in 2024, the company presented its first watch, the Mareoceano 44, at Watches of Italy in 2025. There are no dubious claims of forgotten workshops discovered in somebody's grandfather's attic. No imaginary 19th-century manufacture. Instead, Vespucci begins with Florence, the sea and a name that already carries an extraordinary association with exploration.

From Florence to the New World

Amerigo Vespucci was born in Florence in 1454.

Navigator, merchant and explorer, his importance lies particularly in recognising that the lands being encountered across the Atlantic were not simply an extension of Asia, but part of a previously unknown continent — a New World. His name would ultimately become attached to the Americas themselves.

It is a powerful name for a watch company.

Not simply because of exploration, but because Vespucci represents something more interesting: curiosity, navigation and the desire to understand what lies beyond the familiar horizon.

For a Florentine brand whose first watch is called Mareoceano, the connection feels entirely natural.

Mareoceano 44 — The First Chapter

A first watch tells you a great deal about what a young company wants to become.

Vespucci could have played safe. It didn't. The Mareoceano 44 is a substantial automatic diver with a distinctive case and a clear maritime identity. Watches of Italy described it as a meeting between Italian creativity and Swiss excellence, with the sea providing the inspiration for its design.

At 44mm, it has real presence.

Its stainless-steel case receives a protective surface treatment rated to 1,200 Vickers, while a unidirectional bezel with ceramic insert, sapphire crystal and 30 ATM / 300 metres of water resistance make this considerably more than a design exercise.

Inside is a movement I am particularly pleased to see at this level: the Swiss Sellita SW200-1B Top Grade automatic calibre, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering around 40 hours of power reserve. This is not the least expensive version of a familiar movement chosen simply to allow the word “Swiss” to appear in the specifications.

Top Grade matters.

It tells us something about the level at which Vespucci wants to position its first watch.

There are thoughtful details elsewhere too. The bracelet includes micro-adjustment, the dial uses a sunray finish, and Vespucci even expresses the depth rating in Florentine braccia: 500 Arms corresponding to approximately 300 metres.

I particularly like that last detail.

Putting another Florentine symbol on the dial would have been easy.

Expressing a modern diving specification through an old Florentine unit of measurement is considerably more imaginative.

Italian Character, Swiss Mechanics

There is a tendency to discuss watches as though nationality alone determines quality.

I don't find that particularly useful.

What interests me more is whether the different elements make sense together.

With Vespucci, the creative identity is unmistakably Florentine and Italian, while the mechanical foundation comes from proven Swiss watchmaking.

That seems an intelligent division of labour.

Florence contributes proportion, colour, personality and cultural identity.

Switzerland provides the mechanical engine.

The sea ties the two together.

The result is a watch that doesn't resemble the endless procession of virtually interchangeable dive watches already on the market.

A Brand at the Beginning

Perhaps the most exciting thing about Vespucci Firenze is that we do not yet know exactly what it will become. The Mareoceano Kickstarter campaign reached 155% of its funding target, and by early 2026 the brand reported that all campaign rewards had been shipped. That first step has been taken. Now comes the interesting part. New colours, new models, perhaps new interpretations of the Vespucci idea — all of that lies ahead. And I rather enjoy encountering a company at this stage.

Collectors spend a great deal of time looking backwards, searching for watches made by famous houses before prices became impossible. Sometimes it is worth looking in the opposite direction.

Vespucci Firenze Comes to Sincrono

We are therefore delighted to announce that Sincrono Luxury is now an Official UK Retailer for Vespucci Firenze Watches. For us, the attraction was straightforward. Vespucci has a recognisable identity. It has not produced another anonymous watch and attempted to manufacture a story around it afterwards. The Florentine origins, maritime philosophy, Amerigo Vespucci connection and distinctive Mareoceano design all belong together. More importantly, there is proper watchmaking substance underneath.

Sellita Top Grade. 300 metres. Sapphire. Ceramic. 1,200-Vickers case protection.

The story attracts you. The specifications justify it. And perhaps that is the balance every good independent watch company should be trying to achieve. We look forward to introducing Vespucci Firenze to British watch enthusiasts and following the brand as its own history begins to take shape.

There are brands whose stories have already been written.

Vespucci Firenze is interesting because we are arriving at the beginning.
