The Von Doren Runde Chili takes its inspiration from the warm tones of sunsets along the Norwegian coast, expressed through a striking red-orange sunburst dial that changes dramatically with the light.
In the shade, the colour becomes deeper and richer, almost red. Move into sunlight and the surface comes alive, revealing warmer orange tones and an altogether more energetic personality.
It is a simple idea, beautifully executed.
At 39mm, the Runde has the proportions of an easy everyday watch, with a 10.7mm thickness and compact 46mm lug-to-lug measurement. The stainless-steel case is paired with a high-quality black leather strap, allowing the vivid dial to remain the undisputed centre of attention.
Inside sits the reliable Swiss Ronda 1069 quartz movement, while Swiss Super-LumiNova® C1 provides visibility after dark. Water resistance is rated to 50 metres.
But there is another story hiding on the back.
The caseback is engraved in the style of a ducat from the famous Runde Treasure, connecting the watch to one of Norway's most extraordinary maritime discoveries. In 1725, the Dutch merchant ship Akerendam was wrecked near the island of Runde while carrying chests of gold and silver coins. Almost 250 years later, divers rediscovered part of that treasure beneath the water.
